A member of House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Bamisile, has said that the newly-adopted direct mode of primary will checkmate imposition.
Bamisile, also the Chairman, House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency, commended the 9th National Assembly for speedy passage of the bill, saying President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent would be the best legacy for Nigerians.
He said that the direct primary might be adopted to select the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti.
The lawmaker, who is also a governorship aspirant, stated this on Monday in Ado-Ekiti during the grand finale of the free distribution of petrol scheme to commercial motorcyclists across the state.
Speaking on the 2022 governorship poll, Bamisile expressed the confidence that APC would win the election on the strength that the primary would now the business of all the card-carrying members, thus giving room for the most popular candidate to emerge.
“The recent bill passed by the National Assembly will change the dynamics of politics in the country, where few are put together to select a candidate who will represent the whole, which was undemocratic.
“If President Buhari can sign the bill into law, it will be one of the legacies he will bequeath to Nigerians because it will mean giving power back to the people.
“It also implies that before anybody can become anything, he or she has to return to the grassroots and consult with the people,” Bamisile said.
The APC chieftain commended Gov. Kayode Fayemi for his excellent performance in the last three years, saying it would help the party in the state to triumph in the coming governorship poll.
Bamisile described the parallel executives composed by a pro-Tinubu group, called Southwest Agenda for 2023 (SWAGA) in Ekiti, as an afterthought, saying “our party will not lose sleep over this.”
The lawmaker, representing Gbonyin/Emure/Ekiti East federal constituency, also used the occasion to hand over federal government’s employment letters to 10 beneficiaries.
He called on governments at all levels to proffer solutions to the employment challenge currently confronting the youths in the country.
The lawmaker said that he had so far secured federal employment’s jobs for no fewer than 52 graduates in his constituency in the last two years.
He said: “I promise 100 jobs for unemployed graduates when I was campaigning. I have done 52 and I promise that I will meet the target before 2023.
“I urge you, the new federal employees, to be dedicated to duties because I believe that the opportunity given to you will help in reducing poverty among Ekiti people.”
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Sunday Ajayi, thanked Bamisile for the gesture, promising that they would be good ambassadors of the state anywhere they were posted to. (NAN)
