Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, has mourned Sir Victor Uwaifo, describing him as an archetypal musical icon.
Agba, in a condolence message he personally signed, dated August 31, 2021, said “It is with a deep sense of shock that I received the sad news of the death of Prof (Sir) Victor Uwaifo.
“Victor Uwaifo was not just a singer, but a celebrated songwriter, an accomplished guitarist, a sculptor, a bundle of talent, an archetypal musical icon and an astute academic who used the instrumentality of music to engender peace, unity and the development of the country.
“He will particularly be remembered for his seminal albums like, ‘Guitar Boy, Joromi”, and “Mamiwater’ which will continue to captivate all music lovers all over the world for many undetermined years to come.
“The death of our dear Uwaifo represents a great loss to his family, the Nigerian creative industry and the country as a whole. I however urge his family, friends, associates, fans and entertainment enthusiasts to take the death as a necessary end realizing that he lived a very memorable and eventful life.
“1 hereby extend my deepest condolences to his family; the Oba of Benin; HRM Oba Ewuare II, the entire Edo people, whom he served as a cultural ambassador; fans and colleagues at this time and pray that God will grant everyone the fortitude to bear the irreparable and irreplaceable loss.”
