Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has flagged off free medical services to vulnerable and less privileged in the state as part of activities to commemorate his second anniversary in office.
Sule, during the flag off in Doma LGA, on Tuesday, also presented cards to people from Doma LGA to enroll into the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Scheme (NSHIS) an initiative to provide affordable and cheap healthcare services.
The state commissioner of health, Ahmed Yahaya, said that the services was going on simultaneously across the 13 LGAs of the state.
He explained that free medical services such as surgery were provided to assist the less privileged who cannot afford to pay for.
According to him, over 40 surgeries have already been carried out since the commencement of the outreach on Monday in Doma.
“One of the beneficiary of the surgery was a woman who delivered twins through CS,” he said. He added that the team has also attended and treated over 400 persons with different health challenges.
The health commissioner explained that Medical Doctors, Pharmacist, Nurses, Medical Lab Scientists among other medical personnel were deployed to ensure the success of the exercise.
The Commissioner explained that NSHIS was initiated by the government to cater for the health needs of the people especially the low income earners, as he called on the entire citizens of the state to key into the health insurance scheme in order to better their living conditions.
Earlier, Governor Sule paid homage to Andoma of Doma, HRH Amadu Ogah in his palace before proceeding to a town hall meeting with stakeholders to get feedback on the performance of his administration.
