Nigeria’s opposition Peoples Democratic party (PDP) has lost another state governor to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This time, it is Cross Rivers State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade that has dumped the party.
He held closed-door talks with six APC Governors who visited him at the Government House in Calabar, on Thursday, during which he announced his decision to join the ruling party.
Also present at the meeting were members of the state executive council and members of the National Assembly.
The governors who visited Ayade include Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State; Hope Uzodinma of Imo State; Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State; Simon Lalong of Plateau State; Mohammed Abubakar of Jigawa State, and Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.
Prompt News Online reports that Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state (south-east Nigeria) had in November 2020, dumped the PDP, prompting the APC leadership to boast then that more PDP governors would join the ruling party before the 2023 general elections.
