The West Africa Football Union (WAFU B) secretariat has announced Cote d’Ivoire, formerly Ivory Coast as the host of the maiden Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Women’s Champions League zonal qualifiers for WAFU-B Zone.
A communication from the Executive Director of WAFU-B, Mr. Balima Boureima to all General Secretaries of Football Federations in the zone obtained by Prompt News read in parts:
‘’Following the reopening of the bidding process for the organization of the qualifying tournament of the Women Clubs Champions League, kindly be informed that Fédération Ivoirienne de Football (FIF) will host the said qualifying tournament’’.
CAF had in 2020 launched the CAF Women’s Champions League in line with what obtains in Europe, Asia and South American continents.
According to the format released by CAF, eight clubs will compete in the finals of the maiden African women’s football club competition which commences later in the year.
The WAFU-B qualification tournament will therefore hold in Ivory Coast in June 2021.
Already, Rivers Angels FC of Port Harcourt will represent Nigeria after emerging winners of the 2021 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Play-off held at Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu- Ode, Ogun state.
However, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had earlier settled for Hasaacas Ladies FC as Ghana’s sole representative based on winning the GFA Normalization Special Competition.
Other countries including Cameroon, South Africa, Mali, Algeria are yet to produce their representatives.
