The Permanent Secretary, Kwara Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Iyabo Banire,says that a contingent of 156 athletes would represent the state at the 20th National Sports Festival in Edo.
She also told the athletes at a meeting held in her office on Thursday that 31 coaches, 12 secretaries and 48 other delegates would be part of the state’s contingent at the festival, holding from April 2 to April 14.
The permanent secretary urged government officials and the athletes representing the state to comport themselves throughout the period of the games.
She said that the state would feature in 27 sports at the festival, adding that for the first time in the history of the state, Kwara would feature in six team sports.
Banire enjoined the athletes to be disciplined, see themselves as ambassadors of the state and ensure that they won laurels to further place the state in a better position sports-wise.
The permanent secretary commended Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for investing in sports in order to inspire the athletes.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the 20th National Sports Festival (NSF), originally scheduled for between March and April 2020 in Benin City, Edo, had suffered several postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (NAN)
