Workers on grade levels 1 to 12 in Ikole and Oye local government councils in Ekiti, on Monday, resumed duty for the first time in 2021.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gov. Kayode Fayemi had, on Jan. 1, directed the affected workers across the state to stay at home, as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the area.
NAN also reports that the council workers resumed work on Monday, in line with the directive of the state government.
A NAN correspondent, who monitored the resumption, reports that the workers complied with the COVID-19 protocols in their various offices, including use of face masks and maintaining social distancing.
While all the offices and the entire premises were tidied up, virtually all the offices were provided with hand sanitiser.
Some of the members of staff, who spoke with NAN, expressed delight with the resumption.
A worker, Mr Sola Ajayi, said that he was happy to be at his duty post after spending two months at home.
Ajayi said that he was already tired of staying at home and had to engage in reading to gain more knowledge.
The Head of Local Government Administration (HLA), Ikole local government council, Mr Lawrence Ajibola, noted that all the COVID-19 protocols were being strictly adhered to.
He said that more awareness and sensitisation would be carried out to ensure that the staffers safeguarded themselves from the deadly virus.
NAN also observed that measures were put in place in Oye local council to ensure strict compliance with COVID-19 guidelines.
Mrs Folake Ojo, a worker in the council, also expressed delight to resume duty, having stayed at home for two months.
Ojo said that wearing nose masks had become her part of her dressing, adding that she would not stop wearing it, to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Another worker in the council, Mr Bode Ogundipe, said that he was equally happy to be back in his office.
Ogundipe said that he would always wear his face mask, as he did not want to contract the virus. (NAN)
