Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Joseph Ayalogu has advised politicians in Nigeria and across Africa to practice politics of inclusiveness and fairness.
He also said that they should always respect the will of the people by accepting the results of the elections.
Ambassador Ayalogu who spoke Thursday on Channels Television breakfast programme ‘Sunrise Daily’ on the topic Biden’s Presidency: Implications for Nigeria, Africa; said the election and inauguration of the 46th U.S President despite the obstacles on the way shows that the People are Supreme.
According to him, “We pay too much lip service to democracy in Nigeria and across Africa. We don’t really practice true democracy. Our politicians are too partisan. They lean too much towards their parties than the people.”
Ayalogu who was Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Switzerland said too much partisanship by Nigerian politicians has denied the people dividends of democracy, pointing out that when a member of the Nigerian Senate brought tugs to steal the Symbol of Democracy, the Mace, he was rewarded with a higher post in the same Senate Chambers he desecrated.
The career diplomat therefore advised Nigerian politicians to borrow a leaf from the United States of America (USA) brand of Democracy by playing politics of inclusiveness and respect for the supreme will of the people.
