The Galaxy Backbone (GBB) has assured on its commitment to deliver digital infrastructure services that would power a digital economy, as it marks the 2020 Africa Telecommunications Union (ATU) day.
GBB Managing Director, Prof. Muhammad Abubakar, gave the assurance at a 3-day virtual ATU conference organized to mark the day on Tuesday in Abuja.
The theme of this year’s Conference is: “POST COVID-19: The Role Of Telecoms/ICT in the Resumption of Socio-economic Activities.”
Abubakar commended the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami for leading the digital transformation achievements currently driving the nation’s economy, and his commitment to ensuring that public sector operations continued despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It was the Minister’s idea, at the heat of the pandemic, to propose that the Federal Executive Council (FEC), which is the highest decision-making body in the country, conduct its meetings virtually using the Galaxy Backbone digital Infrastructure platform.
“This proposal approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, recorded a huge success as the FEC has conducted successfully over 22 meetings virtually, leveraging the GBB Unified Communications platform.
“At this period, a lot of young people have been trained with digital skills that is transforming how they work and live and has encouraged them to create new innovations that are transforming the nation and leading to the attraction of global investors into the country.
“The Honourable Minister has continued to champion the need for digital skills, which will help in transforming the nation’s digital Economy,” he said.
Abubakar also said that the GBB would continue to support the efforts of the minister in ensuring that Nigeria, and indeed the whole of the African Telecommunications Union, was transformed into a leading, globally recognized, Digital Economy.
He assured that the company would continue to innovate and stay focused on its role as the leading digital and network communications platform implementing the vision of building a formidable digital economy in the country.
He congratulated the leadership of the ATU, and all member states, on the 2020 ATU day and expressed hope in future public-private collaborations within the ATU. (NAN)
