The Nasarawa state fire service on Wednesday disclosed that it recorded 99 fire incidents from January to June 2020 across the state.
Chief Fire Officer of the state Fire Service, Dalhatu Dogara revealed this in an interview with newsmen in Lafia, the state capital.
Dogara attributed the fire incidents to carelessness, misuse of electrical equipment, misuse of cooking gas among others.
According to him, seven lives were lost during the period under review while two lives have been saved.
He further disclosed that a total of 104 distress calls were recorded, out of which 99 were fire operations while 4 were for rescue operations with one recorded as a false call.
Dogara said that most of the fire incidents occurred in residential houses.
“The estimated property lost is N95 million while the estimated property saved is N1.5 billion and most of the fire incidents occurred in residential houses,” he stated.
He called on all cooking gas users to keep children away from the gas cylinders.
“Use of cooking gas should be maintained and fixed in appropriate positions and they should avoid allowing children to tamper with gas cylinders.
“I am using this opportunity to appeal to residents to always be fire conscious and avoid overloading of electrical sockets,” he added.
