One Mr. Collins Mmonye, 35 has been arraigned in Abakaliki Magistrate Court for the assault of Miss Esther Nkwede, an 11-year-old girl.
Prompt News recalls that Miss Esther, sometime last month jumped a two (2) storey building in a bid to escape the torture of Mr. Collins. He however, denied some allegations made against him after admitting to them at the initial stage.
It is against this backdrop that he was arraigned and charged for unlawful assault punishable under section 355 of Ebonyi state law of 2009. The charge sheet reads thus:
“That you, Mmonye Collins ‘m’ on the 18th day of April 2020 at Uloanwu street off Omege street, Amike Aba in the Abakaliki Magisterial District did unlawfully assault one Esther Nkwede ‘F’ aged 11years by flogging her all over her body with cable wire which caused her harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 355 of the criminal Code, Cap 33, Vol.1 Laws of Ebonyi state of Nigeria, 2009.”
In her ruling, Magistrate Esther Ezeugo granted Collins bail in the sum of #150,000, under a guarantor who must be a civil servant resident around court area and with two passport photographs.
Meanwhile, the matter was adjourned till Friday, the 31st day of July, 2020 for further hearing.
