The Director General of Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu Thursday poured cold water on the burning demands by Nigerian scientists and researchers who are clamouring for the validation of their home-grown drugs as he has revealed that the Federal Government is looking at the global collaboration to find cure for the dreaded novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease.
Speaking in Abuja at the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 Pandemic daily press briefing, he stated that Nigeria subscribed to the international bodies including the World Health Organisation (WHO) for global collaboration in the scientific researches to find solutions to Covid-19 pandemic which has enveloped the world.
Dr. Ihekweazu agreed that it is important to have an indigenous cure for the dreaded virus but insisted that it will be even more necessary to subject the home-grown discoveries to international standardisation for the good of all.
The NCDC boss hinted that Nigeria is currently participating in the global surveys of the drugs for the cure of Covid-19.
He therefore said that Nigeria and Nigerians should avoid looking at the models some of the western world are using to navigate their ways during the pandemic but emulate countries like Mexico, Brazil and India which have many things in common with Nigeria.
