Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reiterated his commitment to ensuring that commercial agriculture remains the backbone of the state’s economy.
Makinde stated this when he visited the Akufo Farm settlement in Ido Local Government Area of the state on Monday.
He said that his administration was aggregating all comparative advantages in agriculture to advance the state in line with his four cardinal programmes.
The governor further said that the Akufo farm settlement would be upgraded to a farm estate, adding that all that would be required to make it functional to maximum capacity would be looked into.
Earlier, Mr Owolabi Osinlowo, the manager of the private firm using the facilities at the farm settlement to operate green-house farming, took the governor round the facilities.
Osinlowo, a specialist in organic tomato and pepper farming, said the farm has the capacity to produce 500 tonnes of tomatoes per week.
He commended Makinde for the commitment of his administration toward the resuscitation of the farm settlement.
