Nasarawa state governor Abdullahi Sule has charged Abuja Electrical Distribution Company ( AEDC ) to increase power supply in Nasarawa state during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The governor made the appeal when he received a team of AEDC staff, led by the Acting General Manager, Nasarawa region, Chris Chime at the Government House Lafia, Tuesday.
He charged the electricity distribution company to do more in ensuring power supply to the people especially at this time of lockdown imposed to curtail the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
“AEDC requires a change of direction. I enjoin AEDC to exhibit change management in order to bring about the needed organizational transformation”.
Mr. Sule revealed that one of the major issues discussed when the governors met with president Mohammadu Buhari, was the issue of power shortage across the state.
Speaking earlier, the Acting General Manager of AEDC Nasarawa region, Chris Chime blamed the shortage of power supply across the state on vandalization of transformers , electrical wires and other essential equipments.
Mr. Chime maintained that in the last three months, over twenty-five of the company’s facilities were vandalized.
“Vandalization has always been the bane of the challenges that the efficient power supply to the customers. Presently, over 16 transmission facilities are out of function.” He said.
He assured the governor that there will be immense improvement in the area of power supply at this stay at home period.
“Lafia especially used to have a very peculiar problem of low voltage, we are aware of that and we know that with the upcoming of the 330KVA station at Akurba, once that station begins work, all power issues in the state and even the FCT will be taken care of”. He added.
Mr. Chime called on the state government to provide security for their facilities across the state.
