The management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), says it has adopted proactive measures to meter about 75, 000 households in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States.
Mr Ibrahim Shawai, KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Affairs, made the disclosure in a statement on Wednesday in Kano.
The statement quoted Jamilu Gwamna, Managing Director of the company, as saying that the exercise would be conducted in the next three months.
Gwamna said that the decision was based on the outcome of the stakeholders meeting between KEDCO and the five vendors handling deployment and installation of the meters.
He explained that the management had intensified efforts to meter its numerous customers as quickly as possible.
The Managing Director added that the management had also mandated the meter vendors to fast track activities to ensure speedy provision of the meters to address complaints by customers.
According to him: “The management has commenced consultation with three additional meter vendors with the hope that it will boost the number of meters in Kano franchise areas as more customers will be metered within the shortest possible time.
“We are not resting on our mission to ensure that we terminate estimated billing because it remains the major way to end customers’ complaints while improving satisfaction.
“We are really concerned about the need to ensure speedy circulation of the meters across board. This is why we are in negotiation with three additional vendors to make it eight”.
The company then notified to all concerned customers who were yet to obtain meters to come and get their meters for effective service delivery.
“There has to be a way of ending complaints on estimated billing system. KEDCO has been doing a lot to ensure that all customers were metered.
“Soon more vendors will be brought on board and we will push until every households gets a meter because as far as KEDCO is concerned, it is meter time”. (NAN)
