The Nasarawa State Government says it has set up a well trained and formidable response team to tackle and effectively respond to any outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.
Ahmed Yahaya, Nasarawa State Commissioner of Health stated this in an interview with newsmen on Friday in Lafia.
He explained that the response team, who are well trained and kitted health personnel, are domiciled at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia and Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.
“The Isolation centres in the two hospitals were well equipped and we got some facilities from National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC),” the Commissioner.
The Commissioner directed all Primary Healthcare Centres and Secondary healthcare facilities to promptly reports any suspected case to the state response team.
According to him, the state is prepared to contain any outbreak of the disease, adding that government had directed all relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to report football player or contractor handling project in the state that has any symptom.
He said that it has developed partnership with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for quick report and response on any passenger with any symptom of the virus.
The Commissioner also called on the media to take it as a point of duty to create awareness to the public on measures to avoid contracting the disease.
Yahaya also urged residents of the state to improve on their personal and environmental hygiene, insisting such moves remain the the only way to avoid being infected with the virus and curtailing it’s spread. (NAN).
