Chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang and Member of the Board of Advisors, National Roundtable for Good Governance, Sir Emem Akpabio will on Saturday, June 22 be honoured for their contributions to national unity by the Federal Government College Okigwe Old Students Association (FEGOCOOKOSA) in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The Unity Award being conferred on the two illustrious sons of Akwa Ibom will be the highpoint of the South-south summit of the association to be held at the Le Méridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort.

A statement issued by the FEGOCOOKOSA in Abuja weekend said that Enang and Akpabio were being recognised for the promotion of national unity through public service in the legislature and national unity through the civil society and support to the Association, respectively.

The statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the association, Mazi Paul Ibe said the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and an alumnus of FEGOCOOKOSA, Prof Chidi Odinkalu will deliver a lecture in line with the theme of the summit: “Sustaining the mandate to promote National Unity” while Akwa Ibom State Governor Obong Godswill Akpabio will grace the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour.

The Summit being hosted by the Akwa-Cross Chapter of FEGOCOOKOSA is expected to generate perspectives on identified issues as well as offer an opportunity for contributions on the different dimensions to these issues, set out an agenda for Nigeria’s unity within the context of these issues and also provide an insight on any emerging consensus on the priorities for Alumni associations of unity schools towards promoting national unity.

Meanwhile, the FEGOCOOKOSA will from July 26-28 move its message offshore when its US Diaspora Chapter will host an annual conference and reunion in Miami, Florida.

Former Vice President and Grand Patron of the Association, Atiku Abubakar is expected to deliver a goodwill message to the gathering at the Hampton Inn & Suites Miami-Airport South-Blue Lagoon.
