An Upper Area Court on Thursday, ordered that a 29-year-old butcher, Abubakar Mohammed, who allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman, be remanded in a correctional facility in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
The judge, Hassan Mohammed, who gave the order, adjourned the case until Sept. 19, for hearing.
The police charged the defendant, who resides in Karu Abuja with rape, wrongful restraint, criminal force, voluntarily causing hurt without provocation and criminal intimidation, which he denied.
The Prosecution Counsel, Vincent Osuji, told the court that the complainant, who was also the victim, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station, on Aug. 23.
He alleged that the defendant invited the victim and her friend to his house.
As soon as they got there, he said, the defendant chased out the victim’s friend with a knife.
He said that the locked his door, and threatened to kill the victim if she made any noise.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant beat the victim up and tied her hands on the bars and raped her.
Osuji said that the offence, contravened the provisions of Sections 283, 256, 265, 246 and 397b of the Penal Code.
