Super Eagles winger Ahmed Musa has highlighted the importance of the side’s win against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in their quarterfinal encounter at the Cairo International Stadium.
The Super Eagles edged Stuart Baxter’s men 2-1 in the keenly contested encounter.
Young winger Samuel Chukwueze opened scoring for the Super Eagles in the 27th minute, while Bongani Zungu equalised for the South Africans on the 70th minute with a header which had to be referred to VAR after the referee had initially ruled the goal offside.
William Troost-Ekong netted the winner for Nigeria a minute before time.
The win was important. We knew it was not going to be easy. All we had in our mind was winning the game and we are glad to do that at the end of the day, “Musa said after the game.
“We expect that we will win, but we have to keep our head down. We scored the first goal but they equalised. We know the goal will eventually come and had to be patient. Finally, it came in the 90th minute.
The atmosphere at the magnificent Cairo International Stadium was electrifying with home fans coming out in large numbers to the Super Eagles.
An appreciative Musa thanked the teeming home fans for their massive support.
“They should keep supporting us. It’s good that Egyptian fans came support to us. We want to say thank you to them for everything. “
