The Flying Eagles have been knocked out of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland after going down to 2-1 defeat against Senegal in their Round of 16 clash at the Lodz Stadium on Monday night.
Amadou Sagna and Ibrahim Niane got the goals for Senegal, while Aniekeme Okon was on target for the Flying Eagles.
Senegal started the game brightly but failed to find way past a resolute Nigerian defender.
Substitute Collins Sor wasted a glorious chance to put Nigeria ahead in the 33 minute when he played through on goal by Kingsley Michael but his weak effort was saved by the Senegalese goalkeeper.
Senegal took the lead nine minutes before the break with Sagna firing the ball beyond Olawale Oremade following a beautiful pass from the midfield.
The Flying Eagles wasted the chance to draw level on the dot of 45 minutes when captain of the side Ikouwem Utin failed to hit his free kick from the edge of the Senegal box into the net.
Niane punished Nigeria for the miss by slotting home his side’s second goal of the game deep into stoppage time.
The Flying Eagles looked reinvigorated after the break and pulled a back through Okon who deflected Success Makanjuola free kick into the net.
Paul Aigbogun’s charges failed to find the equaliser afterwards and have now exited the competition.
