Debo Omilani, Lagos
The only member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu representing Amuwo Odofin Constituency 1 in Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This was contained in a letter read at the plenary by the clerk of the House, Mr. Azeez Sanni and signed by Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu during plenary.
Olorunrinu, thanked the leadership of the House, especially the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa Hon. Sikiru Oshinowo aka Pepperito and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The lawmaker added in the letter entitled; “Letter of Defection from the PDP to the APC” and addressed to the Speaker of the House, that it was unfortunate that the defection was coming late.
“I decided to realign myself with the APC to take Lagos State to the next level.
“I want to thank the Speaker of the House for given me all the tools needed to work as a lawmaker since I got to the Assembly in 2015,” he said.
In his reaction, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa stated that it was a good thing that the only man standing in the PDP was defecting to the APC.
“At last, we have the only man standing in the PDP joining the APC and there will no longer be any man standing.
“I welcome you on behalf of my colleagues and party for your decision.
“We have always been saying that the best party in Nigeria is the APC
“There is nothing to gain in the PDP. I welcome all the ward chairmen of the PDP present here today and I am sure you will also be defecting to the APC with Hon. Olorunrinu,” he said.
He recalled that eight of them joined the House as lawmakers as members of the PDP in 2015, but that seven of them later defected to the APC.
“I will not regret finding myself in the midst of everybody in the Assembly. Lagos State is bigger than everybody.
“I spoke with many people before I took the decision. I spoke with the people of my constituency and others about it.
“PDP has been discovered to be a party not to be reckoned with.
‘It is a party that lacks structure and vision for Nigeria of tomorrow.
“I speak as a youth and we need to stand with the APC, a progressives party and we are progressives people,” he said.
