As the rescheduled Presidential and National Assembly Elections got under way on Saturday, voters turned out impressively at voting units in Ilorin to exercise their franchise, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
However, the voters were a bit apprehensive due to the late arrival of election materials.
Senate President Bukola Saraki’s ward, Agbaji Ajikobi, at polling units 005, 006 and 021 witnessed an impressive turnout of voters.
Saraki and his wife, Toyin, arrived at Òde Opobiyi 1, Ajikobi ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area amidst cheers by supporters and was able to cast his vote at exactly 10:10 a.m.
NAN also reports that card readers in some units verified voters but could not authenticate them.
In Omu-Aran, reported cases of card reader malfunctioning were later rectified by INEC engineers.
Also in Ayedun, home of Mr Dare Bankole (PDP) representing Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-ero federal constituency, cases of card reader malfunctioning were also reported.
An official who pleaded anonymity, acknowledged card reader failure and other network hitches.
Some of the presiding officers who spoke with NAN in Omu-Aran, Ayedun, Ipetu and , Erinmope said that the they arrived at 7 a.m. for the voting process.
