As predicted by Prompt News Online, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been drawn in a tough Group A along side host nation, France, European powerhouse, Norway and Asian giants, South Korea in the 8th FIFA Women’s World Cup final slated for France next summer.
In the Draw Ceremony held in France Saturday evening, Nigeria will start her campaign with a difficult match against Norway before facing off with South Korea and France in the subsequent matches.
Interestingly, Nigeria lost woefully to France early this year in an international friendly tie in La Mans. The French hammered the reigning African Champions 8-0 in a one- sided game.
But that was a wake up call as the Nigerians bounced back forcefully to beat Gambia 7-0 over two matches in the 11th Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers. She went on to win the just concluded AWCON trophy in Ghana by defeating South Africa 4- 3 on penalties in the final played at Accra Sports Stadium.
With Nigerian Group now known Super Falcons Head Coach, Thomas Dennerby has no choice than to overhaul the the AWCON team and change his technical and tactical orientation if Nigeria hopes to come out of the Group Stage in France.
