Four friends were on Wednesday docked in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly stealing and selling a Mercedes’ Benz CLS 550 car worth N7 million.
The police charged Uche Onyeneke, 42; Wudur Babagana, 36; Dayo Adeyinka, 46 and Patrick Okunmwendia, 56 with conspiracy, theft, obtaining under false pretence and receiving stolen property.
The Prosecution Counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence in July.
She said that the defendants conspired to commit the offence at Ikeja area of Lagos.
The second and third defendants were alleged to have obtained N400, 000 under the pretence of repairing a Mercedes’ Benz CLE 550 car belonging to Mr Enobong Idiong, the complainant.
Babagana, he said, dishonestly converted to his own use three wristwatches worth N19 million and a cabin container worth N700, 000.
The first defendant, Onyeneke was alleged to have received the stolen Mercedes’ Benz car with registration number; BWR 55 AT from the other three defendants.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 280, 287, 314, 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje granted the defendants bail in the sum of N2 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.
She said the sureties must provide proof of tax payment and their homes and office addresses must be verified by the court.
She adjourned the case until Nov.1 for trial. (NAN)
