No fewer than four persons died on Tuesday while 12 others sustained injuries in an accident involving a Mazda bus and Howo truck at the Oniworo turning on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Mr Ahmed Umar, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta.
Umar noted that the accident which occured at 10:55a.m, was caused by excessive speeding and loss of control on the part of the Mazda bus driver, marked APP 111 XM.
He added that the tanker, with no registration number, was trying to make a u-turn before the bus rammed into it.
The sector commander explained that a total of 16 people, 13 men and three women, were involved in the accident.
“A total of 12 people were injured comprising nine male and three female adults.
“Unfortunately, the four deaths recorded from the crash, were all male adults,” he said.
Umar said that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, and IDERA hospital, Sagamu, while the deceased were deposited at FOS Ipara morgue.
The FRSC boss cautioned motorists on speed violation, commiserated with families of the crash victims and enjoined them to contact FRSC for more information on the crash. (NAN)
