Three men – Ibrahim Bankole, Abu Amodu and Ali Bakare – on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing diesel and two pressing irons, all worth N605,000.
Bankole, an electrician; Amodu, a cart pusher; and Bakare, a security guard are aged, 25, 24 and 37, respectively.
They are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 25 at No.8, Oduduwa St., Ikeja.
Odugbo said that the defendants were caught by a security guard on the estate as they were stealing the items.
He said that the defendants were caught with 25 gallons, each containing of 25 litres of diesel, as well as
two industrial pressing irons.
He said that the diesel worth N500,000 while the irons were valued at N105,000.
The prosecutor said that the items belonged to the complainant, Mr Olalekan Adebiyi.
Odugbo said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years’ jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides for two years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to steal.
The Magistrate, Mrs M. F. Onamusi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each,
with two sureties in like sum.
Onamusi adjourned the case until Sept. 29 for mention. (NAN)
