Three men, Bashiru Musa, 38, Umaru Ababakar, 38, and Tomiwa Charles, 20, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a jewellery worth N1.1 million.
The defendants, who all reside in Ishaga area of Lagos, are facing two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the defendants committed the offences with one other person still at large on Sept. 11 at Agege area of Lagos.
Ayorinde said that the defendants stole the jewellery belonging to the complainant, Mrs Abosede Adenike.
“The complainant got home, discovered that her room had been ransacked and her jewellery stolen.
“After several investigations, it was discovered that it was the defendants that stole the jewellery,” the prosecutor said.
He said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years jail term for stealing, while Section 411 attracts two years for conspiracy.
The Magistrate, Mrs B.O Osunsanmi, released the defendants on bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
Osunsanmi said that all the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Nov. 18 for mention.
