            ***Stresses importance of sacrifice

By Harry Awurumibe, Editor, Abuja Bureau

The Labour Party flag bearer in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi has commended the tenacity and commitment of the Obidient Movement to the course of rescuing Nigeria from misgovernance and putting the country in the path of prosperity.

The former Anambra state governor who spoke at the Relaunch of Obidient Movement and presentation of a book titled *Obi: The Political Change Agent,* in Abuja on Tuesday.

He lamented over the rot in the country, especially in the area of economy, healthcare, energy, security and general well-being of Nigerians, arguing that the country is in a dire need of a leader with a clear vision of turning things around by stopping the slide to a failed state.

He therefore urged the members of the Obidient Movement to go back to their villages and towns and tell them that what we have today, we must join hands to remove this because it is not sustainable. “

Obi reminded members of the Obidient Movement that election season is fast approaching, and some of the politicians who have held them down for too long will come again to tell them false stories in order to get their votes, advising them not to fall for it.

Said he: “People will come,  as usual, with grammar telling you stories,  please,  ask them about their background, ask them who they are and if they say they served anywhere, ask them how did they do it, what did they do, so that we will know to know how we can fix this country and make it work”.

Obi also told the Obidient Movement members and, indeed, all Nigerians that if any politician tells them that he or she cares for them or the masses, they should disregard it because many of these Nigerian politicians do not care about the electorates.

“Remember, go back home, and as I tell people,  we have a system that does not care for you and does not care for anybody.

Anybody who tells you that government of today is caring for you or all those big men are caring for you, it is not true, otherwise, we would not have millions of children who are not in schools, we will not have millions who do not know where the next meal will come from”.

Obi insists that: “any country where those in  politics are richer than those in business that system can only produce poverty, saying that the simple definition of money is exchange of value and when people who are corrupt are stealing money, they are not giving any value back, so they are producing poverty “.

Finally, Obi assured that all above mentioned corrupt practices in the Nigerian system are what he is fighting to go and dismantle for the good of all Nigerians.

Said he: “So I thank all of you for being part of this. Let us all continue to sacrifice, there is no shortcut to it. If we use shortcut, we will not get there. It is sacrifice. You have seen it everyday. At this stage, we are going to look for people all over for those who are going to be in the House of Assembly,  House of Representatives…

It is important.  That was what we did not do the last time. We now want genuine people who will be in the House. If you want to make money from politics, know that you are part of this problem”

Obi, however, sounded a note of warning that in the 2027 elections, Obidient Movement is going to be everywhere,  saying “this time around, we will vote, and the votes will count and those who think we will not count it we will count them. Those who said Nigeria will not work, we will make it to work”.

The foreword to the book is written by the impassioned legal mind and a fervent Obidient, Dele Farotomi.
