Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has been urged to diversify and delve into untapped areas to boost its revenue.
Mr Femi Lamina ,an economic expert ,gave the advice speaking at the 2024 Budget Retreat of the council on Tuesday in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)reports the council’s 2024 budget is tagged “Budget of Transformation.”
Lamina, delivering a lecture on ”Diversification of Nigeria Revenue: Local Government Impact”, said the council needed to explore new areas to boost its revenue and deliver more democratic dividends to the people.
“We need to open our eyes to see and discover areas where revenue can be generated .
“So ,it is necessary to diversify to boost Internal Generated Revenue in 2024,” he said.
The Council Chairman, Mr Olasoju Adebayo, in his remarks ,charged staff on revenue generation ,saying getting more revenue was a collective responsibility of the council workers.
Adebayo added the numerous programmes and projects planned for implementation in the 2024 budget could only be implemented with enough revenue.
The chairman said economic downturn, occasioned by CBN’s currency re-design policy and fuel subsidy removal ,affected the council ‘s revenue in 2023.
He expressed optimism that the council’s revenue would improve in 2024.
