Against all odds, Nigeria defeated Australia 3-2 in both country’s second match in the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup played at Brisbane Stadium on Thursday to blow Group B wide open.
It took five extra minutes of the first half of the highly explosive match for the goals to start coming in with Australia’s Emily van Egmond opening the scores with a low drive in the 45 +1′ but Uchenna Kanu equalised for Nigeria in the 45 +5 ‘
However, the nine-time African champions showed why they are Africa’s All-time Best Team by scoring twice in the second half courtesy of defender Osinachi Ohale headed goal in the 65′ and Asisat Oshoala’s goal in the 72′ assisted by midfielder Rasheedat Ajibade who also assisted Kanu’s goal.

With this victory Nigeria has joined Canada on four points and has all to play for in the last Group B clash with the already eliminated Republic of Ireland just as Australia with three points still has a chance to go through if they pick points in the match with Canada on the last day.
