The Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has asked the public to disregard insinuations that there are over voting in the Presidential election results from Ekiti state as released by the Commission.
According to INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu there is no over voting in the Ekiti results rather there is under voting if the figures presented by the Collation and Returning Officers are anything to rely upon.
Yakubu who was reacting to the allegation of over voting in the Presidential election results from Ekiti sate by some political party Agents led by Senator Dino Melaye, who is the Agent of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at National Collation Center at International Conference Center, Abuja, said there is nothing like that in Ekiti state.
Said he: “My response to the allegation of over voting is that there is no over voting in Ekiti. The results from Ekiti were what was recorded at the Polling Units.
Besides, Collation of results are done at four levels. Collation are made at Polling Units, Ward Levels, LGA Levels and State Levels. The figures from Ekiti showed there was no over voting”.
“My second response is, I am satisfied that the figures that were presented by INEC emanated from the results of the Polling Units Results in Ekiti state and my third response will be, yes, the Commission has power to Review the procedures of the elections but Reviews can only come at the conclusion of the whole exercise”.
Prompt News reports that at this point, no fewer than nine Agents of political parties led by Senator Melaye of PDP and Mallam Umar Farouk Ibrahim of Labour Party walked out of the National Collation Center at ICC, Abuja.
