From Harry Awurumibe, Lagos
Despite the introduction of the 2022 Electoral Act and its innovations which have deepened the country’s democracy, politicians still rush to the law courts to file cases against each other.
This is even as it has been revealed that all the 18 presidential candidates on the final list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2023 Presidential Election have cases instituted against them in the courts.
The Commission made this known on Tuesday in Lagos at the Two-Day Capacity Building Workshop on the Commission’s Processes, innovation and Preparations for the 2023 General Election and Critical Issues in the Electoral Act 2022.
However, the electoral umpire blamed the political parties for not observing internal democracy in the nomination of their candidates for the deluge of litigations being witnessed.
It also said that the development was not good for the electoral process.
