The Governor of Zamfara, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, has restated that the State Government would continue to provide necessary support to agencies tackling the current banditry in the state.
Yari gave the assurance on Thursday when he received members of the Course 2/2018 of the Army War College, who were on a three-day operational theatre visit to Zamfara.
The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi, applauded the effort and resilience of security agents deployed to the state to combat the banditry.
Yari lauded the Federal Government for sending the security operatives to the state, saying that the bandits were being crushed.
“This is why the present administration in the state will continue to provide all needed resources to support security operatives in discharging the tasks facing them,’’ he said.
The team leader, who is also the Director of Studies at the college, Brig.-Gen. Charles Ofoche, told the governor that the team was in the state as part of regular study tour, conducted for middle level officers in the military and other paramilitary formations in the country.
“The visit will acquaint the participants with first-hand knowledge of the campaign plan for an ongoing operation in an academic setting.
“The visit is focused on enabling participants to come up with plans that could further enhance the conduct of `Operation Sharan Daji’.
“This will facilitate an enduring exit strategy within the shortest possible time frame,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the team was earlier received by the Force Commander of Operation Sharan Daji in the state, Maj.-Gen. Stevenson Olabanji.
The force commander, who was represented by the Commander 1 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Kennedy Udeagbala, expressed his delight with activities of the college in preparing middle-level officers for the nation.
He charged the participants to embrace the training with vigour as it was intended to train them on enhanced skills for operational and tactical processes.
The team also visited troops locations at Shinkafi, Talata Mafara and Tsarfe Local Government Areas of the state, to carry out an on the spot assessment of their operational activities.
The theme of the visit is: “Enhancing the Capabilities of the Nigerian Army in Combating Internal Security Challenges in Nigeria”.
