The announcement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as the new Emir of Kano, was greeted with protest by angry youths on Sunday.
The youths who apparently had expected the first son of the late Emir, Sunusi Ado Bayero, to be named as new Emir protested against the choice of the former CBN boss.
Prompt News gathered that the angry youths took to the streets in Nasarawa area of Kano metropolis, staging procession to the Government House.
They were however prevented from causing breakdown of law and order as armed military and policemen promptly dispersed them.
The Secretary to Kano State Government, Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, while announcing the new Emir, said Sanusi Lamido Sanusi becomes the 14th Emir of Kano with immediate effect.
He said the Kingmakers who unanimously chose the new Emir would announce the turbaning date as soon as necessary arrangements are concluded.
