The Nigerian Youth Organisation (NYO) has petitioned the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) over alleged poor treatment melted on some Nigerians by a Chinese company, BN Ceramic Nigeria Limited, Kogi
The President of the organisation, Mr Abdullahi Abubakar, presented the petition to the commission in Abuja on Thursday.
Abubakar said that NYO petitioned NHRC based on the complaints received from members of staff of BN Ceramic Nigeria Limited, Kogi, who are also members of the organisation.
He, therefore, called on the commission to critically look into the alleged ill-treatment melted on the indigenous members of staff of the company by its management.
“`There are some issues regarding the Chinese company in Kogi and we are here to present them to the commission based on human rights violation that Nigerians received from the company.
“We have met with the commission leadership and happy with their response about the issues. They have told us that they would meet the top management of the company to address the issues,” he said.
Abubakar added that the Public Complaint Commission had also been briefed on the development and was already on investigative missions to the company to address the issues
Also, Mr Habeeb Muhammed, President, Pan African United Youth Development Network, expressed concern over the injustice and irregularities perpetrated by the company against the Nigerian youths doing their legitimate work in the company.
Muhammad was optimistic that there would be light at the end of the tunnel as those concerned would get justice.
“These youths that reported to the organisation are our members and it behooves us to look at their rights.
“We want to alert relevant authorities to swing into actions to look into the plight of the youths,” he said.
Responding, Alhaji Musa Salihu, Director, Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in the commission said that the complaint had been received and would be treated accordingly.
Salihu said that the commission would investigate the matter by listening to the other side of the story and address the situation. (NAN)
