Yobe Government says it has targeted about one million children between the ages of three and 59 months for treatment in the 2021 Seasonal Malaria Chemotherapy (SMC) campaign in the state.
DR Umar Ciroma, Director, Immunisation and Disease Control, Yobe Primary Healthcare Development Agency, disclosed this shortly after the SMC stakeholders meeting, in Damaturu on Wednesday.
According to him, the SMC programme is being implemented in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) across the 17 local government areas of the state.
Ciroma recalled that in 2020, over 700,000 children aged three to 59 months benefited from the SMC in the state.
He said the drug was proved to be effective in prevention against malaria.
“This actually shows that as time goes on Yobe would be able to reduce the burden of malaria on children,” he said. (NAN)
