Students of the Yitzhak Rabin International School, Port Harcourt in Rivers State have developed flying drones which when fully completed, will be utilized for surveillance purposes.
According to the Founder of the School, Dr Blessing Ogini, the feat was achieved by the JSS2 students after a thorough research.
Ogini disclosed this at the commissioning of a multi-million Nai8 fully-equipped e-learning Center donated to the school by the Embassy of the State of Israel in partnership with Skill G Nigeria Ltd.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Acting Ambassador of Israel to Nigeria, Mr. Yotam Kreiman said, “Today is also symbolic being the 26th annual date of remembrance of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin about whom we say that in his death, he commanded us tolerance, peace and a stance against violence.
” It is a great honor to commission this classroom today and we hope this will encourage innovation and intellectual independence. It is my great honor to represent the State of Israel in the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the benefit and prosperity of both countries.
“The State of Israel recently marked its 61st anniversary of diplomatic relations and friendship with the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I am proud to note with satisfaction the ties that exist between our countries today in the areas of Culture, Arts, Agriculture, Security, Innovation and Education. The last two areas are the reason we are here today.”
Mr. Yotam Kreiman who pledged the Embassy’s commitment to encourage the commendable work that the school has been involved in since it was founded said the e-learning center, which has been equipped with modern advanced computers, aims to provide environment for the students to learn, develop, grow, and establish opportunities for their future.
According to him, the school was founded to make a difference and add value to the African Child, adding that it is in line with this vision, that the center was equipped and donated with the belief that it will have a positive impact.
“We are proud to provide opportunities to children and adults through access to the computer lab, and we hope that the conducive environment will further leverage their skills and learning abilities”, he added.
Earlier, the proprietor, Dr Ogini pointed out that the cardinal objective of founding the school “is to train up a complete child that will, among others compete in the world of science and other disciplines”.
“Suffice it to inform you that Yitzhak Rabin International School has continued to maintain the 1st position in computer science and data processing throughout the Federation with A1 since 2013 till date”, he added.
He disclosed that the Yitzhak Rabin Advance College, which was also commissioned by the Israeli Envoy, is affiliated to fifty universities located in United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada and Israel.
According to him, it is a one year full time course designed to prepare the students for undergraduate study “to our partner universities and help International students succeed in an overseas classroom environment”.
In his goodwill message, son of late Prime Minister of Israel, Yuval Rabin commended the Embassy of Israel in Abuja and the Israeli Foreign Ministry for their continued support for tbe project.
He said, “When my father returned to office in 1992, he set out to “change Israel’s National Priorities”. Education was one of the highest priorities, and higher education was only one of the items on the list of the new priorities by making it accessible to vastly larger audiences.
“I am proud to see The Yitzhak Rabin School of Nigeria continue the legacy of my father under your leadership Dr. Ogini together with your team and supporters.
“I truly hope to be able to visit the school once again in person and see with my own eyes the progress you’ve made”.
