The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Alhassan Yakmut has assured of continued partnership with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for the development of Nigerian sports.
He spoke on Saturday shortly after leading FCT SWAN members and other sports administrators on walking and jogging walkout to kick-start the 2015 FCT SWAN week.
According to him, media and sports are “inseparable” hence, the need to build strong collaboration in the overall interest of sports and Nigerian youths.
To demonstrate his commitment to boosting the sporting media, Yakmut said SWAN will now be forwarded to the National Planning Commission for capturing as one of the organizations that have put it in their programmes that fitness is necessary.
Speaking earlier, FCT SWAN chairman, Mr. Kayode Adeniyi, said the 2015 Week centered on the 2016 Rio Olympics Games billed for next year summer.
He informed that as part of the activities marking the week, the NSC Director General is billed to present a paper on Wednesday on the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
To underscore the importance sports writers attach to development of women football, NFF board member who also chairs women league, Mrs. Dili Onyedinma, will deliver a paper on “Women Football: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” while the grand finale of the week holds on Thursday with a Gala Night.
Those who took part in the working and jogging walkout were chairman of women league. Mrs. Dili Onyedinma, FCT director of sports, Mr. Alim Musa, President of Volleyball Federation who also delivered a goodwill message, Abuja NUJ chairman, Mr. Talle and members of sports writers.
