Reno Omokri has praised Afrobeats star Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, recognizing him as a model of patriotism and humility within the Nigerian and African music scene.
In a social media post, Omokri commended the artist for not only producing music that delights young Nigerians but also for making substantial contributions to the nation’s economy and international reputation.
“Someone whose songs bring pleasure to our youths and treasure to our economy. But most importantly, his words bring succour to our country and attract positive attention to Nigeria from foreigners,” Omokri wrote.
Drawing a parallel between Wizkid’s impact and that of Rihanna in Barbados, Omokri emphasized the artist’s deliberate efforts to leverage his platform for the advancement of Nigeria.
“He is to Nigeria what Rihanna is to Barbados: One who understands that God put him in the privileged position that he is in and uses his words and actions to make life better, not worse, for his country,”
Omokri further lauded Wizkid’s unwavering affection for Nigeria, which he noted informs his speech and actions, embodying the Yoruba principle of Omoluabi—a person of integrity.
“His love for his country is more important than his mood or feelings. His affection for Nigeria guards his speech and actions. He is the epitome of the Omoluabi ethos,” he remarked.
The former presidential aide concluded with a prayer, expressing appreciation for the upbringing that molded the global star.
“May God bless Ayodeji Balogun for understanding how to use his words to help those from this part of the world, and may God bless the parents that raised such a wise child.”
Wizkid, a Grammy-winning artist, continues to garner admiration for his musical prowess and his positive representation of Nigeria on the world stage.
