The Forum of Wives of Northern Governors led by the wife of the Benue State Governor, Mrs Yemisi Doshima Suswam, on Monday in Maiduguri, donated items worth millions of naira for onward distribution to victims of insurgency in Borno State.
The visitors included wives of the Governors of Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Adamawa, Taraba and Kaduna States.
Items donated to the Borno State government included 1500 cartons of indomie,1500 cartons of spaghetti, 1500 cartons of maggi , 400bags of rice and 300bags of beans.
The Benue Governor’s wife who prayed for peace to return to the state, said she was optimistic that peace would soon be restored and insurgency made a thing of the past in the state.
She said her Forum was disturbed by the plight of victims of insurgency in the state and hence the donations.
Receiving the items, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno thanked the Governor’s wives for their kind gesture, saying it signalled the signs of brotherliness and goodwill needed across the country.
He particularly said it was encouraging to note that the Governors’ wives had put aside political differences to make the visit and donation to the state.
“We must put aside religious, ethnic and political differences if we are to be our brother’s keepers and ensure that an injury to one is an injury to all.
“The pains of others must be felt by all and sundry, especially by our leaders and the privileged few. This is one sure way of entrenching unity and perseverance in the country, regardless of our individual and collective differences, “Governor Shettima stated.
