The Kano State Government and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have distributed relief items to 494 households affected by windstorms in the state.
The presentation was made by Gov. Abba Yusuf to those affected in Ajingi and Warawa Local Government Areas of the state.
The governor was represented at the event by Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
Yusuf lauded NEMA and the Federal Government for always giving succour to affected victims and vulnerable groups in the state.
Yusuf urged residents of the state to desist from dumping waste in waterways and keep a clean environment at all times to avert flooding.
On his part, NEMA Coordinator, Kano Territorial Office, Dr Nuraddeen Abdullahi, said the gesture was part of the federal government’s interventions for affected persons.
Abdullahi, represented by the Head of Account and Finance of NEMA Kano Office, said that the relief items include 1,225 bags of 25kg rice and 1,225 bags of 25kg maize.
Others items are 80 cartons of vegetable oil, 80 cartons of seasoning, 80 bags of iodized salt, 1,225 blankets, 1,225 nylon mats and 1,225 treated mosquito nets.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, said that 194 houses were affected in Ajingi LGA, while 300 houses were affected in Warawa LGA by the windstorm.
“SEMA and NEMA conducted an assessment in the communities to determine the extent of damage and prepared a comprehensive report to the State and Federal Government for assistance.”
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Yakubu Sa’idu, thanked the government for the support, adding that it would go a long way in ameliorating their hardship. (NAN).
