The National Coordinator of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) initiative, Mrs Gloria Ahmed has given reasons for Nigeria’s membership of the global organization.
She stated this at a sensitization workshop organised by the Budget and National Planning Ministry for civil service officers from the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Abuja on Wednesday.
The Coordinator said, “one of the key focuses of Nigeria’s membership in the OGP is to build a better relationship between government and civil society by creating various avenues of engagement and collaboration in the spirit of cooperation.
“This is evident in the improvement in citizens participation in the in the Budget cycle and other fiscal transparency measures”, she added.
Mrs Ahmed further explained that the workshop was designed to build a knowledge base for the MDAS “to understand the role of OGP in the public sector and your obligations to push the sustainable reforms achieved under the OGP”.
She said under her leadership, the National Secretariat will continue to support the OGP process at the national and sub national levels to meet the demands encapsulated in the OGP National Action Plan.
According to her, the OGP is a global and multilateral initiative that seeks to reform publlic sector performance with emphasis on improved public service delivery.
“”The OGP Initiative is testament to President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to pushing back against corruption and public sector inefficiency, which has been in operation since 2016”, she added.
