Following the victory of Mr Seyi Makinde in the March 9 governorship election, some residents of Oke-Ogun Zone in Oyo State on Monday set different agenda for the governor-elect.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged winner after he defeated his closest rival from All Progressives Congress (APC), Adebayo Adelabu.
Many of the residents, who spoke with NAN in separate interviews, expressed optimism of a new beginning.
An Iseyin-based civil servant, Mr Bambi Abiodun, called for an all-inclusive government, saying ”at the end, there is no winner or loser, we are one.’’
”It is important for the governor-elect to carry everyone along in this tough task,” he said.
A Saki-based 32-year old business man, Mikail Mosobalaje, expressed the hope of new things in the state and urged the governor-elect to rule with the fear of God.
”I and my friends are not members of any political party, but we follow political tends and support the best candidates for various positions across party lines and even spend our resources if need be.
”I say this so people will know we are not interested in anything from the governor or his administration, all we want is good governance.
”We want a government that will respect the rule of law, which will respect our monarchs, a government that will not develop a particular region of the state to the detriment of others.
”We want a listening and responsive government that will be open to change when being criticised objectively and will ignore distractions,” he said.
A fashion designer, Miss Mofoluwake Teemar-Williams, said she had no doubt of a new era in governance and way of life for the people of the state when the new administration comes on board.
”I was born in the state and had my education here, I have seen different types of administration.
“ I want to say that the incoming administration is coming just like the last one came.
”I pray and hope that it doesn’t end like this present one, Mr Makinde must put all hands on deck to ensure quality governance that will not be one-sided or for personal gains.
”He must ensure that his administration is not personalised by friends and relatives, he must be above board in his dealings and he must avoid conflict of interest between him and his subjects.
”I pray that it is well with this present administration and the incoming one and to all Oyo State residents as well as our dear country Nigeria,” she said.
