By Mohammed Yangida, Lafia The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nasarawa State said all is set for the February 2015 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the State, Abdullahi Umar Danyaya stated this at the stake holders forum on peaceful election 2015 at the Ibrahim Abacha youths centre Lafia, the state capital.
He said a total of one million, two hundred and twenty three thousand, three hundred and eighty eight (1,223,388) permanent voter cards PVC’s were received in the state, and as at 1st February 2015, Nine hundred and fifty six thousand four hundred and sixty eight (956,468) numbers were distributed, while the remaining two hundred and sixty six nine hundred and twenty (266,920) are yet to be distributed.
Enumerating some of the challenges facing the commission, the REC said some PVCs were printed and delivered without names on the register of voters, while some had names on the registers but no PVCs delivered.
According to him, a total of one thousand eight hundred and seven (1,807) smart cards readers have been received from the headquarters and the remaining of seven hundred and fifty (750) still being expected .
“The card readers received are being configured specifically to be used for each respective polling unit (PU).
“The election materials and distribution of ballot boxes and other non-sensitive materials have been received and are being distributed to the thirteen local Government areas of the state,” the REC said.
He called on all the parties to submit their party’s agents list to the commission seven days before the election.
On her part the NYSC state co coordinator, Mr. Charity Uba said that they have instructed all corps members to vacate from Obi local government area of the state and Assakio during the elections.
She also requested INEC to provide the data of all Corp members that would be participating in the general elections.
Also, she appealed to the politicians to treat the Corp members as their family, protect them and create enabling environment for them to do their assignment.
However, the security agencies appealed to all citizens to join hand with INEC in order to deliver a credible and peaceful election in the country.
