LIBERIA – The West African Health Organisation, WAHO, is funding construction of state-of-the-art health facilities at the Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone borders.
According WAHO Communication Unit, this is in a bid to fight cross-border diseases and epidemics.
The three countries have been chosen because of the Ebola crisis that affected them.
Consequently, on Friday, October 20, 2017, WAHO in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Liberia, performed the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the first health center at Bo Waterside, at the Liberia-Sierra Leone border in the Tewor District.
Dr Laurent Aholofon Assogba, Deputy Director-General led WAHO team to the ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by: The Acting County Health Officer, Grand Cape Mount County, the District Commissioner, Tewor District, representing the Superintendent and a representative of the Special Representative of ECOWAS Commission President.
Others were the WAHO Liaison Officer for Liberia, the Deputy Minister, Planning, Policy and Research, the Professional Officer in Charge of Health System Strengthening at WAHO, ther WAHO staff and the chiefs and people of Bo.
