By this victory, the champions of Ghana will now meet Delta Queens who ran away with a 3-2 nail-biting win against Athletico of Cote d’Ivoire in the first semi-final encounter earlier on Monday in Benin City.
Ampem Darkoa which has gained notoriety in scoring right from the first sound of the whistle in the competition struck again barely one minute of the kick-off when Tracey Twum scored two quick goals in 1′ and 12′ before Mary Amponsah added the third goal in the 18′ while Ophelia Amponsah made it four goals in 44′ to end the first half 4-0.
In the second half of the match, Sam Nelly’s captain, Valentine Clotoe scored in the 55′ to reduce the tally but Ampem Darkoa hit back by scoring two more goals in 66′ by Nancy Amoh and Twum who completed her hat trick in 69′ to ensure that the match ended 6-1 in favour of Ghana’s champions.
The contrasting fortunes of the two finalists in the tournament showed that the
Delta Queens and Ampem Darkoa clash in the final will be explosive and interesting with Ampem Darkoa scoring goals with reckless abandon.
