Jibril Saidu, an ex-international handball player, has renovated the handball court at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium in Jos, Plateau, to further promote the sport among youth in the state.
Saidu, who is the Chief Executive Officer, Geogojih Foundation, renovated the court in fulfillment of a pledge made to the state Handball Association.
The donor, who was represented by Mr Abdul Ibrahim, Secretary of the Foundation, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Jos on Monday that he was motivated by the support he got from Jos during the last HFN election.
Saidu said that he made a promise during the campaign that if his candidate wins the the presidency of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), he would renovate the court.
He said that after emerging victorious and having received the votes of Plateau delegates, it was only honourable to fulfil the pledge.
Speaking at the occasion, Amos Dashe, the Chief Coach, Plateau State Handball Association, said court, which was built in the early 70s, has produced many players of prominence.
‘’This court has produced over a hundred players who are playing all over the country and abroad; the likes of Olivia Auta, Gloria Solomon, Hanatu Abubakar, Kaira Atsu, Nadabo Ibrahim and many others, ” Dashe said.
According to him, the renovation is timely, as it will motivate the players who are preparing for the second phase of the premier league coming up in October in Lagos
