Nigerian social media critic, Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman or VDM, has shared a significant update on the ongoing investigation into the theft of funds from his NGO.
The scandal, which saw over ₦180 million siphoned from the organization’s account, has left VDM and his supporters shaken.
VDM initially revealed on Friday that ₦160 million was funneled into an unknown account, while ₦20 million was partially recovered after swift action, including the issuance of a Post No Debit (PND) directive on one of the accounts.
On Sunday, 29th of December, he announced that relentless efforts had led to the recovery of ₦78 million.
However, the remaining ₦102 million has been traced to Ghana, where authorities are actively investigating to uncover the culprits behind this audacious crime.
A cybersecurity audit of the NGO’s website revealed that hackers from multiple countries—including Nigeria, the United States, and Kenya—were involved in attempts to breach the organization’s systems.
VDM suggested the possibility of insider involvement, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
Visibly emotional, the humanitarian spoke about the personal toll the ordeal has taken, including sleepless nights and immense stress.
Despite the challenges, he expressed gratitude to those who have supported him throughout the crisis.
As investigations continue, the incident has sparked widespread debate on cybersecurity vulnerabilities and the challenges faced by non-profits in safeguarding their resources.
