Vice Chancellor, Gombe State University, Prof. Ibrahim Musa Umar has called on all heads of public tertiary institutions in Nigeria to work hard towards completing all Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) sponsored projects within the stipulated timeframe.
Prof. Umar spoke during the commissioning of the Main University Library of the University, described the establishment of TETFund as the best thing to have happened in Nigeria as far as education sector is concerned.
The Vice Chancellor who could not hide his joy over the various interventions by TETFund in the Gombe State University as well as other tertiary institutions in the country, promised that his management will continue to work very hard to utilize the provided infrastructure for the benefit of the school and students.
Noting that the interventions of TETFund remain what every public tertiary institution will continue to support and sustain, Prof. Umar was full of praise for other areas of intervention like Conference Attendance, Academic Staff Training and Development, Research activities and Book Developments among others.
Urging other managers of public tertiary institutions to quickly tap into the benefits of TETFund interventions through timely completion of TETFundsponsored projects; Prof. Umar noted that the problem with some institutions is that of having the wrong people running them.
According to him, “my advice to my colleagues is to get the right people, right management and professionals to work with. And when they work put in their best efforts, they can turn around these projects and get them done quickly so as to get the full benefits of these funds available through the intervention ofTETFund.
“I advise all my colleagues to work very hard to see that they implement their projects on time to see that they get better value for money because once you delay it, you will have problem with the value of money you have fromTETFund for the project”
In his reaction, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Dr. Abdullahi Bichi Baffawhile commissioning the project alongside Ag. Director, Education Support Services, Dr. Salihu Girei and Head, Legal and Board Secretariat, BarristerAdamu Abubakar said he was super impressed with the completed projects inGombe State University.
Dr. Baffa told the management of Gombe State University that ability of the university to deliver quality and gigantic projects was as a result of the kind of goof leadership and management in the university.
He lamented that unlike what he witnessed in the Gombe State University, some institutions leaves one wondering what is going on when the same amount of fund will be allocated to them and the where about of the fund nor the project will not be known, leading to TETFund introducing more stringent condition aimed at protecting public funds.
According to him, “I must say that I am super impressed by what I have seen. Foe me this is the product of leadership, the quality of leadership, the sincerity of leadership and vision of leadership in the university. Once you have a purposeful leadership with vision, clear focus, you will see result.
“We have been preaching on the need for institutions to construct Iconic Edifices, beautiful super structures in our tertiary education institutions and coming to Gombe State University today, we have just seen what we have been preaching in practical terms: he said.
Thanking the Management of the University, the TETFund boss urged them to continue being a shining example through maintaining the quality of planning and implementation of projects in the school, assuring them that Gombe State University will definitely grow from strength to strength.
