An unidentified man has been electrocuted while trying to steal wires from a transformer in the Akute area of Ogun State.
PUNCH Online gathered that the community has been facing ongoing issues with the theft and damage of electrical wires from their power transformer.
Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday.
She explained that the man had climbed the transformer house and was electrocuted while attempting to cut a wire.
The incident was reported to the police by Rasheed Ajagbe, the chairman of the Irewole community, who revealed that the community had been struggling with persistent cases of transformer vandalism. Around 7:00 a.m. on Friday, Ajagbe received a call urging him to inspect the transformer.
Upon arriving with other community leaders, they discovered the body of the unidentified man who had been electrocuted while trying to tamper with the transformer’s wiring.
The statement read, “When they arrived at the transformer house, they found the lifeless body of an unknown individual who had attempted to steal wires, resulting in electrocution.”
Following the report, a team of detectives visited the scene to gather evidence, take photographs, and conduct an investigation.
The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) was notified, and the body was later taken to the General Hospital Ifo mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
